Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection and abuse prevention purposes.

An anonymized string (hash) generated from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to determine whether you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After comment approval, your profile image may be publicly visible alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website (for example, when submitting content), avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract metadata from images published on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for convenience so you do not need to re-enter your details when posting another comment. These cookies remain for one year.

When visiting the login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when the browser is closed.

When you log in, cookies are set to store your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days. Screen options cookies last one year. If “Remember Me” is selected, your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and only references the post ID of the edited article. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content from external websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited the external website directly.

These external websites may collect data about you, use cookies, implement third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content, especially if you are logged in to that external service.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or trade personal data.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.

Visitor comments may be processed through automated spam detection services.

Analytics, Cookies and Tracking Technologies

This website uses analytics, cookies and third-party tracking technologies to understand how visitors use the site, to improve content and user experience, and to measure the effectiveness of our communication and marketing activities.

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) together with Google Tag Manager (GTM) to collect aggregated statistics about site usage. GA4 may process information such as the pages you visit, the time spent on pages, clicks, approximate location (based on IP address), device and browser information, and traffic source. IP anonymisation is enabled so that Google truncates your IP address before further processing. We use this information only in aggregated form to analyse trends and to develop the content of the site.

In addition to GA4, we may use social media and advertising pixels or tags, such as the Facebook/Instagram Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag and X (formerly Twitter) pixel. These technologies help us:

  • measure conversions and the effectiveness of posts or campaigns that refer to this site,
  • build audiences for retargeting or lookalike advertising on the respective platforms, and
  • understand, in aggregate, how visitors coming from social media interact with our content.

These third-party providers may combine the data they receive from this site with other information you have provided to them or that they have collected from your use of their services. Processing by those providers is subject to their own privacy policies and terms.

The legal basis for using analytics and marketing cookies is your consent. Where required by law, we display a cookie banner that allows you to accept or reject non-essential cookies and tracking technologies. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via your browser settings, by clearing cookies, or by using tools offered by the respective providers (for example, the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on and social media ad preference settings).

Some of the service providers we use are located in, or process data in, countries outside the EU/EEA, in particular the United States. In these cases, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission. However, we cannot fully exclude the possibility that public authorities in those countries may access personal data under local legislation. If you prefer to avoid such transfers, you can refuse analytics and marketing cookies.

Analytics and tracking data are retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above and in line with the default or configured retention periods of each service (for example, GA4 event data is typically retained for up to 14 months). Where possible, we work with aggregated or anonymised data. You can also exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability as described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy, and we will cooperate with our service providers to handle such requests where they concern data processed on our behalf.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows automatic recognition and approval of follow-up comments instead of placing them in a moderation queue.

If user registration is enabled and you create an account, the personal information provided in your profile is stored. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (username changes are not possible). Site administrators can also access and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you may request:

– an exported file of the personal data we hold about you
– deletion of your personal data

This does not include data we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services. Depending on the service provider used (for example, Akismet or similar), data may be processed outside your country of residence.
